You Are Year 7 HBC 2022

CONFERENCE TIMES: Saturday 16th September 11am-4pm

WHERE: Whangaparaoa Baptist Church, 733 Whangaparaoa Rd, Whangaparaoa

WHAT TO BRING: A drink bottle

We are looking forward to meeting your daughter(s) on September 16th, 2023. We realize that for many, this will be a big step of courage to meet new people and be in a new environment. Please be assured that we work very hard to make this a positive experience. We encourage parents to leave promptly once they have dropped their daughters off. This helps us to get on with our purpose and plan.

Our workshop program facilitates learning and discussion around healthy friendships, building self-esteem, and knowing where they can find self-worth. We also have team-building games, team challenges, craft (to enable discussion with mentors), and we have a time for Q&A. It will be a fun, affirming, and challenging time for them.

Mentors and Groups: Your daughter will be placed in a group with a mentor. Our mentors are aged between year 10 – 13. Our mentors have attended our mentorship training, so they are equipped and prepared to work with your daughter. The mentors, like all of us on the team, work in a voluntary capacity, so we are thankful that we have young women willing to give up their time to impact and influence your daughter's life in a positive way.

Information about your daughter: Thank you for the comments/information you have given us on the registration form. Please let us know before the conference (if you haven’t already) if there are specific issues or needs we need to know about your daughter. It is important that we can be as prepared as possible to ensure your daughter's experience is a positive one. We are not trained counselors, but being aware and sensitive to 'issues' is helpful. Anything you share with us is confidential. Please email: vgatman@icloud.com

Use of devices/language – NO DEVICES We will not have devices at the conference this year. This is an important time for them to engage person to person rather than pull their phones out. Please emphasize this with your daughter so they are not surprised when we ask them to put their devices away if we see them using them.

What your daughter needs to bring each day:

  • A bottle of water

  • We will provide lunch

We look forward to seeing your daughter(s) on September 16th. Sign-in opens at 10:30 am. We have a fun, challenging conference where your girls will be reminded of their worth. They will be encouraged, informed, equipped, and empowered.

I would like to acknowledge our You Are operations team. This is made up of nine adults who all work on a voluntary basis to bring this opportunity to your girls. They all work, have families but are committed to seeing the You Are vision come to fruition so that our community can be strengthened, and your daughters can see their potential and grow in confidence.

Have a great week.
