You Are Hibiscus Coast 2023

Thank you for registering your daughter for the You Are HBC 2023 Conference. We once again apologise for the problems we encountered with the payment process. We are confident it is sorted. We want to assure you that we are all set to go and are looking forward to meeting the girls.

WHERE:

Salvation Army Church, 32 Greenview Lane, Silverdale (end of the cul de sac)

We are looking forward to meeting your daughter(s) on July 3rd. We realise that for many, this will be a big step of courage to meet new people and be in a new environment while others are returning for another year of conference. Please be assured that we work very hard to make this a positive experience.  We encourage parents to leave promptly once they have dropped their daughters off. This helps us to get on with our purpose and plan.

PARKING:

Please do not park on Greenview Lane as the road is very narrow and once cars are parked on either side, cars can’t get through.  We acknowledge that parking can be congested and we will do our best to direct cars.  If it is possible, please car pool or park across the road – especially on the last day when you come for the 2pm presentation.

You Are Programme:

Monday 3rd July 2023              9am – 3pm

●      Please provide your daughter with morning tea, lunch and a drink

Tuesday 4th July 2023                        9am – 3pm

●      Please provide your daughter with morning tea, lunch and a drink

Wednesday 5th July 2023                    9am – 3pm

●      Parents are encouraged to join us at 2pm. We recommend arriving  from 1.30pm onwards as it gets very busy. We would appreciate your patience as we guide you into the carpark.  Please do not park on Greenview Lane - preschool parents will be picking up their children and we need to keep the road free.  Alternatively, park across the road. Please provide your daughter with lunch and a drink.  NOTE:  Morning tea is provided and we want to thank Zones Landscaping for sponsoring Krispy Kreme.

We would appreciate you being prompt with drop-off and pick up times as we have a full programme and will start and finish on time.  Prompt pick up at finishing time is appreciated too.

Mentors and Groups

Your daughter will be placed in a group with a mentor. Our mentors are aged between year 11 – up to our oldest mentor who is in her final year of university. Our mentors have attended our mentorship training camp so are equipped and prepared to work with your daughter. The mentors, like all of us on the team, work in a voluntary capacity.  We are thankful that we have 31 mentors this year willing to give up their time to impact and influence your daughter’s life in a positive way.

Information about your daughter

Thank you for the comments/information you have given us on the registration form. Please let us know before conference (if you haven’t already) if there are specific issues or needs we need to know about your daughter. It is important that we can be as prepared as possible to ensure your daughter's experience is a positive one. We are not trained counselors but being aware and sensitive of ‘issues’ is helpful. Anything you share with us is confidential.

 Groups

If you haven’t let us know whether your daughter would like to be grouped with a specific friend, please let Vanessa know before the 24th June.

Please email Vanessa Gatman - vgatman@icloud.com

Mum and Dads Session – Wednesday 5th July:  2pm

We would love you to join us in celebrating your daughter(s). At 2pm on Wednesday we share with you some of the highlights of conference and your daughter(s) will be taking a ‘walk of confidence’ with her group. The girls really love you attending and despite the fact that some of them will try and talk you out of coming – come anyway!  Note: We have had parents who do not attend and it is a disappointment for the girls so if you can’t get there, please ensure another family member can come. Grandparents are also welcome.

Use of devices/language – NO DEVICES

We will not have devices at conference this year.  This is an important time for them to engage person to person rather than pull their phones out. This applies to poppits and fidgets which can be distracting for the speakers and other girls. Please emphasize this with your daughter so they are not surprised when we ask them to put their devices away if we see them using them.

 Language

Please remind your daughter that this conference is about learning to value their worth. A big part of this is the way they talk to others, about others and what comes out of their mouth. We will not tolerate swearing, gossip or disrespectful language.

 Sponsors

We would like to thank our generous sponsors who have gifted product, services, time and expertise and money to add value to your daughter’s conference experience.  Sponsorship offers are still coming in but thank you to the following who have donated so far: The Warehouse Group, Pak n Save, Tony Gatman Real Estate, Zones Landscaping, Mission North Fellowship, sponsor-a girl donors and the many speakers who are sharing their stories, women who are offering their expertise, bakers, kitchen helpers (who will feed our mentors and operations team).

 Reminders:

1.     Remind your daughters to please wash hair – we have people working on their hair on the Tuesday in our styling session and it's courteous to have it clean.

2.     Bring any hair devices (please name them)

3.     Book the mum/dad session into your diary (2pm Wednesday)

What your daughter needs to bring each day:

-       a bottle of water

-       morning tea (Monday and Tuesday only)

-       lunch (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)

-       any hair devices on Tuesday (straighteners, curling iron)

This is not a school holiday program. There is significant preparation and resources involved in developing and facilitating this comprehensive 3-day workshop with a number of speakers, support team, and trained mentors involved.  Spaces were booked out early and we have a number of girls on our waiting list.  It is really important that your daughter attends for the 3 days to get the maximum impact of the workshop. If they are genuinely unwell or having any concerns, please contact us at vgatman@icloud.com

We look forward to seeing your daughter(s) on the 3rdh July at 9am at the Salvation Army Church in Greenview Lane, Silverdale. ‘Sign in” opens at 8.30am. We have a fun, challenging, conference where your girls will be reminded of their worth. They will be encouraged, informed, equipped and empowered.

I would like to acknowledge our You Are operations team and board of trustees. This is made up of ten adults who all work on a voluntary basis to bring this opportunity to your girls. They all work, have families but are committed to seeing the You Are vision come to fruition so that our community can be strengthened and your daughters can see their potential and grow in confidence.

Have a great week.
